The paintings in this body of work are visual meditations on that which is fixed, and that which is fluid. They are works which have “lived” for months or years in a state which is visually different from their final form, extending from my view of life as a constant state of becoming.
Over time, layers of paint, paper, and ink were added and removed to each canvas’ surface. In each state, the artwork’s shifting form expressed a different facet of itself as its surface featured many layers, each being a distinct stage in its development and maturation. Each painting features a textured body which is formed by layers fibrous mulberry paper a d paint which is fortified with stone dust.
In a sense, each artwork I create is a living entity, gradually growing to reach its final form, a metaphor for the way all living things change over time. My role as the artist is to assist in its changing, but also to ultimately decide when to halt its aging process, and reintroduce it into the world.
