LAVA FLOW (2018)
Sumi ink, watercolor on paper
Each piece: 30” x 20” (77 x 52 cm)
This series was created in response to the 2018 eruption of Kilauea on Hawai’i Island. Each exploration considers the volcano’s power to simultaneously create and destroy, an amalgamation of water, sumi ink, and watercolor. As these substances intermix and repel each other, microscopic mountains and tributaries are formed on the paper’s surface akin to the ways in which the Living Earth forms and flows.
