GRAVITY (2014)
Steel
42” x 5” x 24” (107 x 13 x 61 cm)
A visual exploration of motion, this sculpture expresses the fact that all things on earth are bound by gravity. The sculpture also contemplates aging and mortality, expressing the fact that, the longer one lives on this earth, the more aggressively it seems to beckon their body into a state of rest.
Constructed by joining structural support beams from a demolished building, with each segment appearing to be floating and frozen in time. Despite its title, an upward motion is implied in the composition, encouraging the question: is the sculpture expanding or collapsing?
