INTERRUPTION (2015)
Basalt, glass
34” x 8” x 22” (86 x 20 x 56 cm)
While dividing the stone to create space for the glass, a piece of it broke off, interrupting the cutting process as if in response to my assertion of will. This fragment revealed the incredibly intricate interior textures, the very soul of the stone. Despite their obvious contrasts, basalt and glass are both composed primarily of silica. These two seemingly opposing materials simultaneously interrupt, and support, one another.
