PAGODA (2017)
Basalt, water
44” x 38” x 74” (112 x 97 x 188 cm)
Two boulders from a quarry in China were divided, intermixed, and installed in a Ming Dynasty fountain basin. Each slab appears to float above the waterʻs surface, a cloud made of stone. The tranquil sound created by the interplay of water and rock further enhances its meditative quality. As these two substances continue to interact over time, the surface and form will change, sculpted by the water's gradual but insistent flow.
