SOFT EDGE (2014)
Newsprint, wood
24” x 36” x 20” (61 x 91 x 51 cm)
Informed by a topographic map of the Ko'olau mountain range in Hawaiʻi, a sequence of geometric abstractions were cut from newsprint paper, a substrate commonly used for test proofs and quick drawings. Because of its lightweight, brittle nature, the paper will gradually crumble and deteriorate, while - on a different scale - the mountain range will also erode over several million years, both inevitably succumbing to entropy.
