TESSELLATION (2020)
Chine-collé - Relief print from stone (Watercolor, basalt, paper)
34” x 38” (86 x 97 cm)
This piece emerged from studies of the intricate, repeating patterns and tessellations which exist in Islamic art and design. It is, in part, a response to the ways in which geometric forms have been used throughout time to embody that which has no form: the realm of the spirit. Relief prints from three different stones were cut and combined to create this geometric combination of printmaking and painting.
