Collected during my travels over years and continents, Each of these stones is an entity of place, a physical embodiment of the primal forces of creation, emanating both groundedness and stability. I feel a sense of acceptance within each stone I touch as it exudes a sense of place and belonging.
Like any interaction between two beings, there is an exchange, a passing of energy and intention while I shape and mark these fragments of earth. Each sculpture’s surface bears evidence of this wordless conversation. Recalling each stone's lifecycle both dynamic and serene, I chisel, facet and expand upon its form according to this interaction: emphasizing the stone’s inherent personality and innate elegance.
Some surfaces are then carefully anointed with treatments which extend from different parts of the world: gold leaf from Japan, indigo pigment from the Middle East, and ink from India, each further emphasizing the stone’s individuality and presence.
Each fragment of a given landscape has its own will and pulse, and only through listening and observing can I honor its journey through time.
