Relief print from Stone (Ink, basalt, paper)
25” x 34” (63 x 86 cm)
Produced by passing a thin sheet of basalt stone through a traditional relief printing press, each print in this series documents the physical decomposition of the stone — a result of the extreme pressure produced by the printing process itself. Through its fissures and fragments, the resulting impression may teach us both about resilience and impermanence.
Together, these prints serve as an acknowledgement of the earth beneath our feet: the source of all that we know and love. They are artifacts which contain the quiet, yet complex story of a stone’s passage through time. A microscopic rendition of the macroscopic world, each print pays tribute to its parent stone's source: a mound of earth in the Pacific Ocean, and ball of earth in space.
